Past President of the Christchurch Metro Cricket Association, Alec Astle, received a Lifetime Service Award at the 2019 Sport Canterbury Awards.

Alec was recognised for his service to cricket which started in Palmerston North as a player and continued as he began teaching at Palmerston North Boys' High School, where he set up one of the largest and most successful cricket programmes in the Country.

Alec then moved to Christchurch in the late 1990's to take up a role as National Development Manager for New Zealand Cricket and immediately began involvement with Christchurch Boys' HS cricket where his sons Ryan and Todd attended.

He played for the Riccarton Cricket Club during his time in Christchurch.  After a long association with NZ Cricket Alec moved to Wellington to take on the role of National Community Sport Manager with SPARC before semi-retiement brought him back to Christchurch, where he took up the role of CMCA President.

Congratulations Alec!
